About Altcoins - Overview
What is an Altcoin?
As most of us will know, despite the misleading picture above, there are of course no actual physical coins with Digital Cryptocurrency.
"Altcoin” is simply an abbreviation of "Alternative Coins". The term refers to any type of cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin or BTC.
Ethereum is considered to be the largest most well known altcoin. Its unit of currency is usually known as the ETH and the entire name Ethereum usually refers to its blockchain network as an entirety.
Some of the more well-known Altcoins are Ethereum, Ripple, Tether, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV, Litecoin. These are just some of the larger ones based on market Cap. There are currently well over 10,000 Altcoins in circulation.
