About Cloud Based Technology - A brief overview
What is Cloud Based Technology?
We often hear the term “The Cloud” The best way to explain this, is that it is simply referring to the Internet.
We often see cloud symbols online, that are used to depict the Internet. That's because users from around the world, all use the same common space to connect and network, which can be thought of by many, as like a huge cloud.
So, Cloud computing refers to sharing resources, software and information through a network, in this case, an Internet connection.
How does it work?
Instead of using storage space on your phone, computer or tablet, your information is held on virtual servers, which are maintained and controlled by a cloud computing provider, through huge data centers. These can safely store and efficiently process your data.
There are three main types of cloud services, some you may have heard of:
Software as a Service - SaaS
example – Microsoft 365, ONPASSIVE, Dropbox, MailChimp, ZenDesk, Hubspot.
Platform as a Service - PaaS
examples – Windows Azure, Heroku, Google App Engine, OpenShift.
Infrastructure as a Service - IaaS
examples – Rackspace, Amazon Web Services, DigitalOcean, Cisco Metacloud.
