What is ICANN and what is its role?
ICANN is the 'Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers'
This company is a non-profit organisation based in California. It is recognised by most institutions, involved with Internet technology and administration around the world.
ICANN co-operates on various projects with different bodies and is responsible for a wide range of policies and technical work, relating to Internet practice.
Also ICANN is the main body that the implements the policies and the process of the various new domain extensions.
