About IPv4 and IPv6 - explained
What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
Due to the sheer volume of the new iOT enabled devices appearing every day, we need to move over to IPv6 to provide the required number of IP addresses.
The primary function of the IPv6 protocol, is to allow more unique TCP/IP address identifiers to be created, now that we've almost run out of the 4.3 available billion addresses that were created with IPv4.
IPv6 uses 128-bit (2128) addresses, allowing 3.4 x 1038 unique IP addresses. This is equal to 340 trillion trillion trillion IP addresses.
